The Caprice Restaurant

The Caprice Restaurant

The Caprice Restaurant

After an extensive three-year renovation and full remodel, The Caprice Restaurant and bar with epic views at the far end of Shoreline Park from downtown Tiburon reopened on November 1st, 2021. New owners Jerry and Jennifer Dal Bozzo and Dante Serafini preserved the charm and character of the original restaurant (built in 1965) while expanding the ability for views from every seat. The team also co-owns Salito’s Crab House & Prime Rib in Sausalito.

With The Caprice, the Dal Bozzos, who are Marin residents, wanted a worthwhile project closer to home. “My husband was familiar with the Caprice from way back when and always thought it was an extremely unique location,” Jennifer Dal Bozzo says. “The moment it became available, it piqued our interest and we immediately recognized the potential for a beautiful venue.”

The revamped menu of well-crafted comfort food includes land (bone-in filet mignon, Italian potstickers) and sea (spicy steamed mussels, gnocchi with crab) options, classic cocktails (try the Blueberry Bellini!) and a wine list featuring mostly American, Italian and French pairings. According to Jennifer, they have considered the past few months to represent a “soft opening,” as they perfect staff and operations and continue to tweak the menu. Now, they are ready to begin a full promotion of their newest restaurant, ramping up social media efforts, working with the local ferries to attract city guests, and offering gift cards.

The Caprice serves dinner nightly in addition to lunch/brunch every Friday through Sunday. The daytime seating has been popular as guests enjoy the unrivaled views of Angel and Corinthian Islands, Raccoon Straits and the Golden Gate Bridge. New mirrors on the interior walls mean those magnificent views are seen from every seat. Valet parking is available for evening guests.

Jerry Dal Bozzo developed the menu, collaborating with executive chef J.C. Becerra and chef Federico Carrillo, both of whom he has worked with on menus over the course of his expansive restaurant career (the visionary team of Serafini and Dal Bozzo is best known for San Francisco’s famous The Stinking Rose which they opened in their native North Beach neighborhood more than 30 years ago).

In addition to the dinner menu, the team has been working to perfect the lunch and brunch offerings adding classic and creative items such as “lotsa blueberry pancakes with Italian bacon” and “eggs benedict deconstructed” served with dungeness crab and bacon, a farro arugula salad and a crab melt with avocado, red onions and cheese.

Jennifer Dal Bozzo led the design effort that takes full advantage of the restaurant’s waterfront location by opening areas of wall and replacing a floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace with a lower and sleeker travertine stone design. The entry and bar flooring is Terrazzo. The architecture, which Jennifer describes as “mid-century coastal” creates a comfortable and cozy environment for guests. The dining room is slightly larger with extra space borrowed from the kitchen and is organized so that every table has an optimal view of the water. Although the downstairs bar is no more, an upstairs bar has been designed to accommodate nine stools and full menu access. The beautiful and functional wood acoustical ceiling inspired the color palette for the entire restaurant, keeping the din to a minimum and contributing to an atmosphere of privacy and intimacy throughout.

The new Caprice has something for everyone on its menu. Its new owners have perfectly balanced an homage to the nostalgia that many feel for the original restaurant while creating an environment of modern charm and intimacy that is not to be missed.
